GasLite (“we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and protect information when you use our website, mobile application, and related services (collectively, the “Services”). By using our Services, you consent to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect and process personal information as defined under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) for lawful purposes connected to delivering our Services.
a) Information You Provide Directly
- Personal Identification: Name, email address, phone number, and profile details.
- Delivery Details: Physical address, delivery instructions, and contact information.
- Account & Transaction Data: Orders, delivery preferences, and payment details (processed by our secure third-party payment partner).
- Communications: Messages, emails, or feedback you send to our support team.
b) Information We Collect Automatically
- Location Data: Real-time GPS coordinates for accurate delivery matching and driver tracking (only while using the app).
- Device & Usage Data: Device type, operating system, IP address, browser, app version, and interaction logs.
- Cookies & Similar Technologies: Used to improve functionality, analytics, and personalized experiences.
c) Driver-Specific Information
For registered drivers we additionally collect:
- ID and driver’s license information
- Vehicle and route data
- Live geolocation while “online” to receive orders
- Proof-of-delivery photos or confirmations
2. How We Use Your Information
We process your personal data to:
- Provide and improve our Services — including processing orders, coordinating deliveries, and maintaining accurate driver/customer matching.
- Communicate with you — to confirm orders, send receipts, respond to support requests, and provide important updates.
- Enhance platform performance — monitor usage trends and develop new features.
- Ensure safety and compliance — detect and prevent fraud, verify driver credentials, and comply with LPG safety standards.
- Comply with legal obligations — under the Consumer Protection Act, POPIA, tax, or court requirements.
We will not process your personal information for any purpose incompatible with the original reason it was collected.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
Under POPIA, we process your information on one or more of the following lawful bases:
- Your consent (e.g., for geolocation tracking or marketing messages)
- Contractual necessity (to deliver your gas order)
- Legal obligation (to comply with regulatory and safety laws)
- Legitimate interests (to maintain platform security and improve performance)
4. Sharing of Information
We never sell your personal data. We may share limited information as necessary to operate our Services:
- Independent Drivers: To complete your delivery — name, address, contact number, and order details.
- Payment Processors: To process secure payments; your card data is handled directly by the processor.
- Mapping & Geolocation Providers: For route calculation and delivery accuracy.
- Analytics / Hosting Partners: To operate and maintain the app infrastructure.
- Legal or Regulatory Authorities: When required to comply with applicable law, subpoena, or court order.
All third parties are required to maintain the confidentiality and security of your information in accordance with POPIA.
5. Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary to fulfil delivery, accounting, and legal purposes:
- Order and transaction data: 5 years (tax and record-keeping laws)
- Driver data: active period of contract + 5 years
- Location data: temporary, deleted or anonymised after delivery completion
After these periods, information is securely deleted or anonymised.
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS / TLS)
- Secure database storage and restricted employee access
- Regular security monitoring and backups
However, no system is entirely immune from risks. You acknowledge and accept this when using the Service.
7. Your Rights Under POPIA
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate or outdated data
- Request deletion of personal data where legally permissible
- Withdraw consent to certain processing (e.g., marketing or location tracking)
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (www.justice.gov.za/inforeg/)

8. Location Data & Permissions
The GasLite app uses your device’s location to:
- Match you with nearby drivers (customers)
- Display available delivery requests (drivers)
- Provide live tracking during deliveries
You can disable location access in your device settings at any time, though doing so may limit app functionality.
9. Children’s Privacy
Our Services are not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we become aware that a child has provided personal information, we will delete it promptly.
10. International Data Transfers
Although GasLite primarily stores data within South Africa, certain service providers may process data in other jurisdictions. In such cases, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, consistent with POPIA Section 72 requirements.
11. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with a revised “Last Updated” date. Significant updates may also be communicated via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the Services after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
